The Thankyou Payroll Story
The Thankyou Payroll Journey
From a Dunedin garage to a nationwide movement, our journey has always been about much more than just software. Take a look at the key milestones, innovations, and community breakthroughs that have shaped the Thankyou Payroll story so far.
Humble Garage Beginnings
Thankyou Payroll starts in the creative depths of a garage in Port Chalmers, Dunedin. Our founders set out to change how Kiwi businesses tackle compliance.
A Trust is Born
We establish the Thankyou Charitable Trust. This creates a unique, participatory funding model designed to put our profits directly back into the hands of local communities.
The First Grassroots Grant
The Thankyou Charitable Trust officially distributes its first community grant to the West Harbour Beautification Trust. It proves payroll can be a force for good.
Certified Climate Positive
We team up with Ekos to measure, reduce and offset our carbon emissions, becoming certified Climate Positive for the first time.
Hitting the 100-Grant Mark
The Thankyou Charitable Trust distributes its 100th grant to support the vital local work of the Christchurch People’s Resource Centre.
200 Grants and Growthing
We celebrate delivering our 200th community grant. The 200th grant supported the Road Ready Rangatahi Learner Driver Licence project.
Half a Million in Generosity
Our built-in Payroll Giving feature achieves an incredible milestone by tracking over half a million dollars in total donations to local causes.
Stepping into Steward Ownership
In a first for New Zealand, Thankyou Payroll begins its transition of ownership from private shareholders to a steward-owned model.
Version 1.0 Goes Live
We officially launch the very first version of our cloud-based payroll software. Right from the start, we dedicate our platform to making life simpler kiwi businesses.
Elevating the Software
A refreshed version of Thankyou Payroll goes live to offer greater versatility to our users. This major update puts much more power in the hands of employers.
Heading North To Wellington
We pack our bags and move our headquarters up to Wellington. Relocating to the capital allows us to become deeply interconnected with the communities we serve.
Walking the Talk on Living Wage
We proudly become a certified Living Wage Employer. For us, taking care of our customers means first ensuring our own team is valued and supported.
The Payday Filing Revolution
Payday filing becomes a mandatory legal requirement. Thankyou Payroll effortlessly guides thousands of small businesses through the transition without the stress.
Shifting the Dial to $300k
Our core mission to give back doesn't slow down. The Thankyou Charitable Trust officially crosses over $300,000 in total grant contributions given back to Aotearoa.
Pioneering Employee Wellbeing
To care for our employees, we launch fully subsidised public transport for commuting staff and a pioneering parental leave policy for our board members.
The Ultimate Vision: Generous Ventures
The Thankyou Charitable Trust evolves into Generous Ventures and becomes the official owner of Thankyou Payroll - putting 100% of profits into communities.
