Introducing David Morrison, Thankyou Payroll’s CEO
David Morrison joins this month as the new CEO of Thankyou Payroll. We asked him to share some insights about who he is and what makes him tick.
At work
I am excited to join the Thankyou Payroll team as Chief Executive. In my first week it is obvious that we have a passionate and skilled team delivering a fantastic payroll service underpinned by our commitment as a purpose driven, sustainable organisation. We have such a great base from which we can grow both commercially and with our positive impact in the world.
Seven of the past nine years have been working in a few roles at InternetNZ and previous subsidiary NZRS. The key focus of my most recent role there as Commercial Director was on product development and diversification of revenues, along with seeking opportunities to further develop the market for .nz domain names, the registry for which InternetNZ manages and operates.
At work I love bringing teams together and shaping agile, efficient ways of working in service of clear strategic goals. 2020 taught me a lot about remote working effectively, team wellbeing and resilience and I look forward to bringing my skills to this role.
The next few months will be getting to know the organisation and customers. Be sure to reach out if you have any questions.
Away from work
Married with two teenage daughters my home life is a busy one, but I do have a couple of hobbies that fill in my spare time. We call Wellington our home but have travelled widely.
In 2018 I participated in IT Heavy Hitters to raise money for Mike King’s Key to Life Charitable Trust. While I lost my fight after a 14 week training programme the significant mental and physical health benefits continue as I keep training a couple of times a week. You can learn more about my journey here.
In more recent times I have taken up paddling surf skis (think long skinny racing sit on top kayak) and like nothing more than barreling across Wellington Harbour in a gale surfing swells. Wellington harbour is amazingly diverse and every paddle is different. It is my happy place where I disconnect from the world and tune in to the watery world around me. In 2021/22 I plan to compete in the national surf ski competition, more for participation than placing! You can even subscribe to my YouTube Channel to see the action!
Over the coming months I hope to be out and about learning from our partners and customers about how we can best meet their payroll needs. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for a chat.
